NOTD: Sinful Colors Verbena

I’m back in business with my camera battery! Welcome back to my more than crappy, less than stellar blog photos!

Ahem. Anyhow.

This color was part of the recently released Adventure Island collection. I managed to snag this yesterday at Walgreens (S.C. polishes on sale for 99¢? Yes, please!).

This one was hidden in the regular display (but it’s not a permanent color). If you find it, I suggest snapping it up.

It’s a medium purple creme. The pictures show it a little cooler-toned than it really is. Put a tinge more red in there, and you got it.

It’s opaque in two coats, but I prefer three (I like numbers divisible by 3 as well, in case you’re ever quizzed about this). The above picture is three coats with a coat of Essie Good To Go.

This is said to be dupey to OPI’s Planks A Lot from the Pirates of the Caribbean collection released for Spring this year. Since I don’t own it, I certainly can’t confirm it (and 99¢ compared to $8+? I will stick to the cheaper one…).

NOTD: China Glaze Verano + Sinful Colors Frenzy

Glitter is magical.

I went dusty diving at my old nail shop when I visited Birmingham a few days ago. I found this old white-label China Glaze named Verano. And yes, it does say “Summer” to me (a tidbit for those who don’t speak Spanish: verano=summer).  😉

Anywhoodle, Verano is a pink-toned purple with silver shimmer (almost frosty, but definitely not). And it’s really pink compared to the glitter which I bombed it in (Sinful Colors Frenzy). You can see my very first glitterbombing with Frenzy here.

I have not been able to stop staring at my nails. I am super pleased with how this turned out. Special thanks to Kari from the Once Bitten Blog for helping me with my gradient. She does them the best. I had to learn from the master.

Could not capture just how sparkly this really was

This is the mani I was we wearing when I tore up the cupcake place earlier today (I won a free 1/2 dozen cuppy cakes on Twitter from Twist Cupcakes).

The excitement builds

Their menu makes me want to live there.

I had planned my assault late last night. I picked which six I was going for. When I got there, I almost lost my game plan. They had additional flavors!!!

Like Dreamsicle(!!!) and Salted Caramel(!!!). *dies*

I stuck as close to my original agenda as possible (and for orientation, the box display is two columns of three):

I left this one intentionally big so you can dive right into the box

I knew I had to have a Maple Bacon one. HAD TO. It’s the one at the very top on the right. There’s bacon crumbled on top as well as in the cake itself.

Kids, I have never had a more satisfying cupcake. I could wax poetic about this one all day and night (and I just might have already gotten started about it on Twitter). I do not have the vocabulary to express my joy. If you are in Mobile or Baldwin County, you need this cupcake in your life.  That is all.

The next one I asked for was Chocolate Mint. There are crumbled Andes mints on it. I might be in love. Center right.

And I love lemon, so Lemon Blossom was a no-brainer. Bottom right.

Of course, I had to have a Red Velvet. I had been dying for a Red Velvet cupcake. If you follow me on Twitter, I’m sorry. I got carried away lamenting over this last week. Center left.

By this time, I was feeling guilty because I hadn’t gotten any for the hubs. So he picked out two Carrot cupcakes. Top & Bottom left. He doesn’t know I’m going to help him nosh one of them. Shhhh.

All in all, I am in love with Twist Cupcakes. I don’t want to move to Panama City now. I won’t be able to get the deliciousness in my face whenever I want.  😦

Swatched: Sinful Colors Hot Spot + Nail Art

Long time, no see.

I’ve had this color for a long time. I don’t know if I would have wound up posting a pic of this color at all, had circumstances been different. I mean, I’ve worn it before, some time last year (before I ever thought about blogging)… but the formula is kind of goopy. So I don’t typically bother with it.

Anyhow, this is three coats and a coat of Seche.

So why did I pick it out now? I’m glad you asked.

Nail Polish Art Addiction (who I highly recommend) is hosting a “Good Enough to Eat” nail art contest. Food related mani’s. How fun! 😀

So I decided to throw my design in the ring (inspired by my SFAM). And I needed a darkish background color. Enter in Sinful Colors Hot Spot.

I will probably be put to shame, since I’m not that great at freehand nail art. But my SFAM thought that the idea was fun, and I couldn’t bring myself to disappoint her. 😉

I give you my entry: “Let’s Go Out to the Lobby.”

"Let's Go Out to the Lobby..."

My personal favorite is the hot dog. I kind of don’t like the way the soda came out, and the popcorn looks like Spongebob LMAO. Oh yeah, and in case you didn’t get it–the candy bar is stunned that someone noshed his head a bit.

But there you have it!

Now, if you feel inclined to vote, please check out Nail Polish Art Addiction. There are some really talented folks out there!

NOTD: Sinful Colors Irish Green + Green Ocean + St. Patty’s Nail Art

Too much? Haha! Never! Well, maybe.

Hubby and I are both Irish (for reals. I had his wedding ring engraved with “Mo gràidh–M’fhear céile”).

I want to go to McGuire’s Irish Pub in Pensacola for dinner tonight. Hubby asked if I’m high. Apparently. That place is crowded like mad during a regular week–I shudder to think of how packed out it’s going to be (it’s quite the tourist trap). Maybe I’ll just sit home and drink beer and eat my corned beef & cabbage like the gods intended. Or go grab some Thai. Mmmm Tom Ka.

Anyhow (LoL), here’s my St. Patty’s Day mani. It’s Sinful Colors Irish Green with Sinful Colors Green Ocean (ohhh flakies).

And, of course, that delightful shamrock on my accent nail. It was going to be a four-leaf clover, but I could only find three green heart rhinestones in my package (devastating, I know >.<) .

I don’t mind that it’s pretty sheer and there’s tons of VNL (visible nail line). My free edge is behaving today, so I’m good.

And for reference, this is Irish Green by itself. Three coats of it. It’s never going to be opaque, just so’s you know. When I layered it over white earlier today, my eyes started watering at the brightness. So I decided to just let it be the transparent green jelly it was destined to be.

It’s the color of electrified Leprechaun snot. And Green Ocean is the consistency of Leprechaun snot. The perfect combo. Ha!

NOTD: China Glaze Grape Pop + Sinful Colors Frenzy

So if you’ve been around a minute, you know that the hubs and I are big on the whole Mardi Gras hoopla. Today is Mardi Gras, and we’ll be downtown all day long. But, I’m not going to leave you guys empty-handed. Here’s my bead-catching, MoonPie-chomping, doubloon-snagging, cup-grabbing mani:

This is two coats of China Glaze Grape Pop (Up & Away collection, Spring 2010) topped with Sinful Colors Frenzy. Frenzy is purple and teal glitter in a clear base. I was reading the Once Bitten Blog the other day, and got the inspiration to do a glitter gradient. I’m pretty pleased with it for not having a clue about how to do it. And it’s all cemented down with two coats of Seche Vite. This puppy’s not going anywhere.

And for those of you who just want to see Grape Pop by itself:

So there you go. Also, here are some slides from the various parades we’ve been partaking in this past week. So enjoy… I know we did.

P.S. Getting banged in the face with big chunks of beads at 100 mph is not fun. Just a little FYI.
